My husband and I recently went under debt review and it's turning into a total nightmare.I was told that I had to include my car payments which i didn't want to because i was not in any arrears with it. Reluctantly i did...that was in August. So, I obviously cancelled my debit order. Now, i receive a call saying that Nedbank declined the offer as well as 3 other retailers. I called Debt Assist and the only thing they could say was "sorry" and needless to say, my car's payments are in arrears and i'm getting the "when are you going to pay" calls.

I Wanted to know, if there was a way i could get out of debt review and apply for debt consolidation?

At first when u applied the counsellor should have explained to u that when you do.all credits thats in your name does apply.not just the one and not the other.when u applied,the 17.5 notice form gets send to all your creditors.so they know that u applied for debtreview.the first two payments goes to your debtcounsellor and the 3rd payments go to your creditors.the only way to get out of debtreview is to pay up your debt and not be creditworthy affected.your counsellor should also tell u that your creditors must stop phoning u for money.

Really sorry to hear about your experience with debt counselling agency. It is so important that you as the consumer is informed correctly with the whole debt review process.
This will then allow you to make an informed decision on whether you want to apply for debt review
